Dawn your green ribbons and boil some cabbage, Pagans! It’s the event you've been training your liver for. St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and he is ready to make your sham rock! Or as Fr. Vincent Twomey once said, “Bring on the piety!”
For real though, SPaddy is OG. At the age of 16 he was kidnapped by Irish raiders from his parent’s home in England and taken captive to Ireland for six
years as a slave. According to his Confession, he was told by God in a dream to flee from captivity to the coast, where he could board a ship and return to
Britain. It worked. Upon returning, he quickly joined the Church in Auxerre in Gaul and studied to become a priest. The rest, as they say, is history.
Believe it or not, St. Patrick was not awarded a day of holy obligation for his wicked green beer keg stands or charming the snot outta some snakes, but for being the Annie Sullivan of the good word and saving the souls of Ireland through demonstrating the likeness of a three leaf clover to the holy trinity.
Nowadays St. Patrick’s Day is marked by scads of parades, heavy drinking, wearing shamrocks, attending ceilidh, green outfits, and other festive ceiliúradh.
